Signs your child could use help

  • Reading has stalled despite your efforts
  • You want an outside view of your child's reading
  • Older children need literature and essay teaching
  • Reading lessons cause friction at home
  • You need records for an annual review
  • Your child would benefit from another voice

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

Homeschool rules vary by state, and we don't give legal advice. Tutors can follow any reading curriculum or align with Common Core ELA if you plan a return to school.

Home-educating families are free to choose their approach. Tutors can follow the National Curriculum, your own plan, or work toward GCSE English as a private candidate.

Who teaches your child

Every TaleemSquare reading and English tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.

How we screen and match tutors
  • Identity and references checked

Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.

  • Subject test

Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.

  • Spoken-English assessment

Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.

  • Live sample lesson

Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.

  • Open to parents

Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.

How the homeschool reading program works

You lead, we teach

You decide the approach and books; the tutor teaches them and keeps you informed.

Real reading level

The assessment finds your child's actual level, which may differ from their age.

Living books welcome

Tutors are happy to teach from real books and literature-based programs.

Daytime flexibility

Lessons can run during the school day, which suits most homeschool schedules.

Common worries, honest answers

“Will the tutor follow our values and book choices?”

Yes. You choose the books and approach. Tutors teach within your plan.

“We use a literature-based approach, not textbooks.”

That works well. Tutors can teach skills through the books you are reading.

“Can you provide grades?”

You get lesson notes and progress updates you can keep, but we don't issue official grades or transcripts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best homeschool reading curriculum?

The best choice depends on your child's stage. Younger children and struggling readers usually need a systematic phonics program. Confident readers often thrive with literature-based approaches that combine reading, discussion and writing. A tutor can help you judge what fits your child.

Can a tutor follow my homeschool reading list?

Yes. Tutors can teach directly from your reading list, planning discussion, vocabulary and writing around each book.

Do you teach phonics to homeschoolers?

Yes. For early readers, tutors teach systematic phonics, either following your phonics program or using a structured sequence.

How much does the homeschool reading program cost?

TaleemSquare plans start at $85 a month for two one-to-one lessons a week of 45 minutes, about $10.63 a lesson. Three lessons a week cost $119 and four cost $149, with no contract, no registration fee and a free first assessment.

Can lessons happen during the day?

Yes. Daytime lessons are available, which suits most homeschool timetables. Once the free assessment is done, your child gets a fixed weekly slot with the same tutor.

Do you also offer homeschool math?

Yes. See our homeschool math tutoring page. Many families combine reading and math lessons.
