How it works, in short

TaleemSquare online writing classes are live, one-to-one sessions, not group classes. A tutor works with your child on a planned progression: strong sentences, organized paragraphs, then full stories, reports and essays, with feedback on real drafts each week.

Because the class is one-to-one, the plan starts exactly where your child is, whether that is a reluctant eight-year-old or a high schooler preparing for exams. Plans start at $85 a month.

Signs your child could use help

  • Writing is much weaker than reading
  • Can't organize ideas into paragraphs
  • Writes very little or avoids writing tasks
  • Group writing classes haven't helped
  • School reports flag writing as a concern
  • Wants to write better but doesn't know how

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

Common Core Writing standards

The writing standards cover opinion and argument, informative and narrative writing, and the writing process from Grade K to 12. Most state ELA tests include a written response.

National Curriculum English: writing

Writing is assessed by teachers at the end of Key Stage 2 and in GCSE English Language. Lessons follow your child's year group expectations.

Level: Years 3-13

Ontario Language curriculum and the OSSLT (other provinces similar)

Common worries, honest answers

“Are these group classes?”

No. Every TaleemSquare writing class is one-to-one with a tutor, so lessons are built around your child.

“My child types better than they handwrite.”

That's fine. Your child can type or handwrite, and we can work on handwriting too if school requires it.

“How will I know it's working?”

You get a WhatsApp update after each class, and you will see your child's drafts improve over the term.

Frequently asked questions

Are online writing classes effective?

They can be very effective when they include regular writing and specific feedback. One-to-one online classes add the advantage that every minute is spent on your child's own writing and needs, rather than shared across a group.

What age are online writing classes for?

We teach writing from about Grade 2, Year 3 in England, through high school. Younger children focus on sentences and short pieces; older students work on essays and assessed writing.

What will my child write in class?

Depending on age and goals: stories, descriptions, reports, opinion pieces, persuasive essays, literary analysis and school assignments. Each piece builds a specific skill on the term plan.

How much does writing class tutoring cost?

One-to-one writing class lessons at TaleemSquare start at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, about $10.63 a lesson. Three lessons a week cost $119 and four cost $149, with no contract, no registration fee and a free first assessment.

Can writing classes help with school assignments?

Yes. Tutors can use school writing tasks as practice, coaching the process and giving feedback while your child does all the writing.

How often should my child have writing classes?

Two classes a week works well for most children. Writing improves through regular practice, so steady weekly classes help more than occasional long sessions.
