How it works, in short

TaleemSquare offers one-to-one online reading lessons for children with dyslexia or reading difficulties. Tutors use a structured approach: phonics taught explicitly, in a planned order, with lots of review and multisensory practice, plus fluency work and comprehension, at a pace that suits your child.

We are a tutoring service. We do not diagnose dyslexia and we are not a clinical or special-education provider, but our tutors are experienced with struggling readers. Plans start at $85 a month.

What changes after a term of lessons

Stack of books and a notebook
Reading lessons mix reading aloud, talking about the text and short written answers.

More accurate decoding

Reads words more accurately using phonics patterns learned step by step.

Smoother reading

Reads with more fluency, so less effort goes into decoding and more into meaning.

Restored confidence

Experiences regular success, which changes how they feel about reading.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Phonological awareness

Hearing and manipulating sounds in words, the foundation of decoding.

Systematic phonics

Letter-sound patterns taught in order, each one mastered before moving on.

Syllables and morphology

Breaking longer words into syllables and meaningful parts.

Spelling

Spelling taught alongside reading, using the same patterns.

Fluency

Repeated reading of decodable and leveled texts.

Comprehension and vocabulary

Understanding what is read, including through listening and discussion.

Signs your child could use help

  • Reading far below what you'd expect from their ability
  • Spelling the same word differently each time
  • Guesses words rather than sounding them out
  • Reading is slow and tiring
  • Has a dyslexia diagnosis or is being assessed
  • Becoming anxious or avoids reading

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

State dyslexia laws, IEPs and 504 plans

Most US states have laws on dyslexia screening and intervention in schools. Tutors can work alongside your child's IEP or 504 plan and reflect relevant accommodations.

SEN support and Education, Health and Care plans

Schools in England support pupils with dyslexia through SEN support or an EHCP. Tutors can complement school support and follow your child's school phonics programme.

Provincial learning disability support and IEPs

Canadian provinces support students with learning disabilities through IEPs. Ontario's Language curriculum now emphasizes explicit, systematic phonics in the early grades.

School adjustments and the Year 1 Phonics Check

Australian schools make reasonable adjustments for students with dyslexia, and several states run a Year 1 Phonics Check to identify reading difficulties early.

How we support readers with dyslexia

Structured and cumulative

Skills are taught in a logical order, each building on the last, with plenty of review.

Explicit teaching

Nothing is left to guessing. Each pattern is shown, explained and practised.

Multisensory practice

Seeing, saying, hearing and moving letters on screen help patterns stick.

Confidence matters

Lessons are pitched for success, with praise for effort and progress.

Common worries, honest answers

“Are your tutors dyslexia specialists?”

Our tutors are experienced with struggling readers and use structured, evidence-based methods, but we do not claim specialist certification. If your child needs a specialist or clinical service, we will tell you.

“My child hasn't been diagnosed.”

You don't need a diagnosis to get reading help. If we notice signs worth investigating, we'll suggest you speak with your school or an educational psychologist.

“Will online lessons work for a child who finds reading hard?”

Many children do well online, because the one-to-one format removes the embarrassment of reading in front of classmates.

Frequently asked questions

What is dyslexia?

The International Dyslexia Association describes dyslexia as a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin, characterized by difficulties with accurate or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding. It is not related to intelligence, and with the right teaching, children with dyslexia can become capable readers.

What kind of reading instruction helps children with dyslexia?

Research supports structured literacy: explicit, systematic and cumulative teaching of phonology, phonics, syllables, morphology, syntax and meaning, often with multisensory practice. It works best when it is regular and closely matched to the child's current skills.

Can you diagnose dyslexia?

No. Dyslexia is diagnosed through an assessment by a qualified professional, such as an educational psychologist or specialist assessor. Our tutors teach reading and can share observations to help you decide whether to seek an assessment.

How much does reading help for dyslexia cost?

TaleemSquare plans start at $85 a month for two one-to-one lessons a week of 45 minutes, about $10.63 a lesson. Three lessons a week cost $119 and four cost $149, with no contract, no registration fee and a free first assessment.

Do you work with IEPs, 504 plans or EHCPs?

Yes. If you share your child's plan, tutors can reflect relevant goals and accommodations in lessons. We complement school support rather than replace it.

How long does it take to see progress?

Progress depends on the child and how often lessons happen. Structured reading teaching usually needs consistent lessons over months. Many families notice more confidence and accuracy within the first few weeks.
