Applying to Dallas ISD magnet and TAG schools

  • Dallas ISD magnet schools, including its Talented and Gifted (TAG) schools, admit students through an online application at Discover Dallas ISD. Families can choose up to five schools, with no more than two magnets.
  • For 2027-28 entry, applicants need a cumulative grade average of at least 75%, and several TAG schools and Townview Science and Engineering require 80%. They also need acceptable reading and math test scores, such as STAAR or i-Ready results for Dallas ISD students.
  • Students who meet both requirements move on to an on-campus assessment, and a total score of 70 or above counts as qualified. Of the seats, 30% go to the top scorers districtwide and 70% are awarded within high school feeder patterns.
  • The School for the Talented and Gifted, a Dallas ISD high school, admits new students mainly in 9th grade. It has very few 10th grade seats and does not admit new 11th or 12th graders.

Magnet eligibility looks at report card grades and reading and math scores, so steady progress through the year matters. A tutor can work on gaps in your child's current math course and practice the skills that STAAR and i-Ready math check.
