How it works, in short

Tenth grade math tutoring at TaleemSquare is a live, one-to-one lesson that follows your child's course: most US tenth graders take Geometry, while others take Algebra 2 or Integrated Math II. For students in England, Year 11 is GCSE exam year, and lessons focus on the exam.

Tenth grade is also when PSAT and SAT preparation begins for many students. Plans start at $85 a month after a free assessment.

What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

On top of the current course

Keeps pace with Geometry or Algebra 2 units and walks into tests prepared.

Exam technique

Knows how to plan time, show working and check answers on end-of-course exams, GCSEs or the PSAT.

Clear path to advanced math

Builds the foundation for precalculus, calculus or statistics in the last two years of high school.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Geometry proofs and reasoning

Congruence, similarity and writing justified proofs, for students in Geometry.

Right-triangle trigonometry

Pythagorean theorem, special triangles and sine, cosine and tangent.

Quadratics and polynomials

Quadratic functions, complex roots and polynomial operations, for students in Algebra 2.

Exponential and logarithmic functions

Growth and decay models and an introduction to logarithms.

Circles, area and volume

Circle theorems, arc length and sector area, and volume of 3D shapes.

Probability and statistics

Conditional probability, two-way tables and data analysis.

Test preparation

PSAT, SAT, end-of-course or GCSE practice when the time comes.

Signs your child could use help

  • Geometry proofs are dragging the grade down
  • Struggling in an accelerated Algebra 2 class
  • GCSE mocks were lower than expected
  • PSAT or SAT math feels unfamiliar
  • Studies hard but grades don't reflect it
  • Unsure which math course to take next year

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

Geometry, Algebra 2 or Integrated Math II (state standards)

Most tenth graders take Geometry, some take Algebra 2, and some districts use Integrated Math II. Many students take the PSAT in Grade 10 or 11. We follow your child's course and test dates.

GCSE Maths, Year 11 (exam year)

Students sit three GCSE Maths papers at the end of Year 11, one non-calculator and two calculator, at Foundation or Higher tier. Lessons combine weak-topic repair with past-paper practice.

Grade 10 mathematics (provincial courses)

Grade 10 math in Ontario, BC and Alberta covers quadratics, linear systems, analytic geometry and trigonometry. Lessons follow your province's course.

Common worries, honest answers

“GCSEs are only months away.”

There is still time to improve if lessons are regular. Tutors prioritize the topics that carry the most marks and practise full papers.

“My teen wants to manage their own studying.”

Tutoring can support that. Many tenth graders book lessons for specific topics and use the WhatsApp summaries to guide their own revision.

“Should my child prepare for the SAT this early?”

Tenth grade is a good time to strengthen the algebra the SAT tests most. Full SAT practice usually makes more sense in Grade 11.

Frequently asked questions

What math do 10th graders take?

Most US tenth graders take Geometry. Students on an accelerated track take Algebra 2, and some districts teach Integrated Math II. In England, Year 11 students take their GCSE Maths exams, and in Australia Year 10 students often choose between standard and 10A courses.

Is 10th grade math hard?

Geometry is hard for students who struggle with proofs and visual reasoning, and Algebra 2 is hard for students with gaps in Algebra 1. The difficulty depends on the course and on how secure earlier skills are.

When should my child take the PSAT?

Many US students take the PSAT/NMSQT in Grade 11, when it counts for National Merit Scholarship consideration, and some take the PSAT 10 or PSAT/NMSQT in Grade 10 as practice. Check with your child's school for dates.

How much does a 10th grade math tutor cost?

TaleemSquare's one-to-one 10th grade math tutoring starts at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, about $10.63 a lesson, with three a week at $119 and four at $149. There is no contract or registration fee, and you can cancel any month. The first assessment is free, so you can see the teaching before paying anything.

Can you help with GCSE maths in Year 11?

Yes. Tutors cover GCSE Maths at Foundation or Higher tier, following your child's exam board, with past-paper practice in the months before the exams. See our GCSE maths guide for parents.

How often should my teen have lessons?

Two lessons a week suits most tenth graders. In the lead-up to exams, many students move to three or four lessons a week for a few months.
