How it works, in short

TaleemSquare statistics tutoring is live, one-to-one and 45 minutes per lesson. Tutors help with high school statistics units, AP Statistics, GCSE and A-level statistics, and data units in Canadian and Australian courses, covering data displays, probability, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis tests and regression.

Statistics is as much about writing clear conclusions as calculating, and that is where most marks are lost. Plans start at $85 a month after a free assessment.

What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

Chooses the right procedure

Knows which test or interval fits a question and checks the conditions before calculating.

Writes conclusions in context

Explains what a p-value or interval means about the real situation, which is how exams award marks.

Reads and builds graphs

Describes shape, center, spread and outliers, and interprets scatterplots and residuals correctly.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Describing data

Histograms, box plots, mean, median, standard deviation, quartiles and how outliers affect each measure.

Collecting data

Sampling methods, bias, observational studies and experiments, and what each allows you to conclude.

Probability and random variables

Rules of probability, expected value, binomial and geometric distributions.

Normal distribution and z-scores

Standardizing values, using tables or calculators, and the empirical rule.

Sampling distributions

Why sample statistics vary and how the central limit theorem shapes inference.

Confidence intervals and hypothesis tests

Proportions and means, conditions, calculations and conclusions written in context.

Regression

Correlation, least-squares lines, residuals and interpreting slope and intercept.

Signs your child could use help

  • Can calculate but can't explain what the answer means
  • Confused about which test to use
  • Loses marks on AP free-response wording
  • Struggles with probability questions
  • Data project or coursework deadline coming up
  • Finds the textbook language hard to follow

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

AP Statistics and high school statistics standards

AP Statistics covers exploring data, collecting data, probability and random variables, and inference, with a May exam. Statistics units also appear in Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Integrated Math. We follow the course your child is taking.

GCSE Maths statistics, GCSE Statistics and A-level statistics

GCSE covers data displays, averages and probability. A-level Maths includes a statistics component with distributions and hypothesis testing, using the large data set set by the exam board.

Level: GCSE and A-level statistics

Grade 12 Data Management (Ontario MDM4U) and statistics units

Counting, probability, distributions and a culminating data investigation in Ontario, with similar statistics content in other provinces. Tutors can coach the investigation without doing it for the student.

Level: Grade 12 Data Management (MDM4U)

Statistics and Probability strand; senior General and Methods courses

Data investigation in Years 9-10, then statistics in senior General Mathematics, Mathematics Standard and Methods courses. We follow your state's syllabus.

How we teach statistics

A decision map for procedures

Your child builds a simple flowchart for choosing tests and intervals, then practises using it until it is second nature.

Conclusions in plain English

Every calculation ends with a sentence about the real situation. We practise the exact wording exams reward.

Calculator skills taught properly

Students learn the calculator functions their exam allows, without letting the calculator replace understanding.

Real data

Examples use real-world data where possible, which makes ideas like bias and variability easier to grasp.

Common worries, honest answers

“My child is good at math but struggling in AP Stats.”

That is common. Statistics rewards reasoning and written explanation more than calculation, so strong calculators can still lose marks. Practising the wording usually fixes it.

“Can you help with a stats project?”

Yes, we can explain methods, check reasoning and suggest improvements. Your child does the work and writing, so the project stays theirs.

“Is statistics tutoring only for advanced students?”

No. We also help with the statistics units in Grades 9 and 10 and GCSE, where many students first meet these ideas.

Frequently asked questions

What topics are in AP Statistics?

AP Statistics covers exploring data, collecting data through sampling and experiments, probability and random variables, and statistical inference with confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. From the 2026-27 school year the course has five units, and College Board removed several topics, including the geometric distribution, combining random variables, chi-square goodness-of-fit tests and inference for regression slopes. The May 2027 exam is fully digital.

Is AP Statistics hard?

AP Statistics uses less advanced algebra than calculus, but many students find it challenging because it requires careful reasoning and clear written explanations. Students who practise writing conclusions in context usually do much better on the free-response section.

Can a statistics tutor help with my child's homework and projects?

Yes. Tutors explain the method behind homework problems and can review a project plan or analysis. They won't complete graded work, but they will make sure your child understands it well enough to do it.

How much does an online statistics tutor cost?

At TaleemSquare, one-to-one statistics tutoring starts at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, which is about $10.63 a lesson. Three lessons a week is $119 and four is $149, with no contract, no registration fee and a free first assessment. Private statistics tutors in the US often charge $40-$60 an hour or more.

Do you help with A-level statistics?

Yes. We cover the statistics component of A-level Maths, including probability distributions, hypothesis testing and the exam board's large data set, with practice in your board's exam style.

What calculator does my child need for statistics?

It depends on the course. AP Statistics students usually use a graphing calculator with statistics functions, and UK students use a calculator approved by their exam board. Tutors teach the functions your child's calculator offers.
