How it works, in short

TaleemSquare calculus tutoring is live and one-to-one, 45 minutes per lesson, for students in AP Calculus AB or BC, IB Mathematics, A-level Maths, and senior courses in Canada and Australia. Tutors cover limits, differentiation, integration and their applications, and work through free-response or exam-style questions.

Most calculus trouble comes from weak algebra or trig rather than the calculus itself. A free assessment finds the cause, and plans start at $85 a month.

What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

Understands what a derivative means

Explains rates of change and slope in words, which is what free-response and extended questions reward.

Integrates with confidence

Chooses between substitution, standard results and other techniques, and sets up area and accumulation problems.

Exam-ready timing

Works through past-paper questions in the time allowed, with clear working that earns method marks.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Limits and continuity

Evaluating limits algebraically and from graphs, one-sided limits, continuity and limits at infinity.

Differentiation rules

Power, product, quotient and chain rules, implicit differentiation and derivatives of trig, exponential and log functions.

Applications of derivatives

Related rates, optimization, curve sketching, motion along a line and linear approximation.

Integration

Antiderivatives, Riemann sums, definite integrals, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and u-substitution.

Applications of integrals

Area between curves, volumes of revolution, accumulation and average value.

Differential equations

Slope fields, separation of variables and exponential growth and decay models.

Series, parametric and polar (BC and Further)

Convergence tests, Taylor and Maclaurin series, and calculus with parametric, polar and vector functions.

Signs your child could use help

  • Understands the lecture but can't start homework problems
  • Algebra errors wreck correct calculus steps
  • Free-response answers lose points for explanation
  • Related rates and optimization feel impossible
  • Grade dropped after the move to integration
  • Exam is in a few months and confidence is low

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

AP Calculus AB and BC (College Board)

AB covers limits, derivatives, integrals and differential equations. BC adds further integration techniques, parametric, polar and vector functions, and infinite series. Exams take place in May; we practise multiple-choice and free-response questions in College Board style.

A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics

Differentiation and integration are core pure topics in A-level Maths, with further calculus in Further Maths. We follow your exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR or WJEC) and practise past-paper questions.

Level: A-level Maths and Further Maths

Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (Ontario MCV4U), Calculus 12 (BC)

Rates of change, derivatives and their applications, and vectors in Ontario, with similar courses in BC and Alberta (Math 31). Lessons follow the provincial course.

Level: Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)

Mathematical Methods, Specialist Maths, HSC Advanced and Extension

Calculus runs through VCE and QCE Methods and Specialist, and NSW Mathematics Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2. We use the state exam style for practice.

Level: Methods, Specialist, Extension 1 and 2

How we teach calculus

Meaning before mechanics

Your child learns what a derivative or integral represents first. The rules are easier to apply once the idea makes sense.

Fix the algebra underneath

We keep a list of algebra and trig slips and drill them, because they cause most lost marks in calculus exams.

Write for the examiner

Free-response and long-answer questions reward clear reasoning. We practise writing justifications that earn full credit.

Past papers on a schedule

In the months before the exam, lessons shift to timed past-paper questions and targeted review.

Common worries, honest answers

“Calculus is advanced. Can your tutors really teach it?”

Calculus is the top of what we teach, and we only match students with tutors who are comfortable at this level. If the free assessment shows we are not the right fit, we will tell you.

“The AP exam is only a few months away.”

That is enough time to make a real difference if lessons are regular. We will map out the units to cover and the past papers to practise before the exam date.

“My child is a strong student and just wants an edge.”

That works well too. Lessons can focus on harder free-response questions, BC topics or Further Maths content rather than catch-up.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between AP Calculus AB and BC?

AP Calculus AB covers limits, derivatives, integrals and basic differential equations, roughly a first semester of college calculus. BC covers everything in AB plus further integration techniques, parametric, polar and vector-valued functions, and infinite series, roughly two semesters of college calculus.

When should my child start calculus tutoring?

The best time is when the first difficulty appears, usually around the chain rule or the start of integration. For exam preparation, starting three to four months before the exam allows time to cover weak units and do timed practice.

Can a tutor help with AP Calculus free-response questions?

Yes. Free-response questions reward clear setup and justification, not just answers. Tutors work through past questions in College Board style and show your child how to write responses that earn each point.

How much does an online calculus tutor cost?

At TaleemSquare, one-to-one calculus tutoring starts at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, which is about $10.63 a lesson. Three lessons a week is $119 and four is $149, with no contract, no registration fee and a free first assessment. Private calculus tutors in the US often charge $40-$60 an hour or more.

Do you tutor A-level and IB calculus?

Yes. We tutor the calculus in A-level Maths and Further Maths, IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, and senior courses in Canada and Australia, using the right exam style for each.

Can you help first-year college students with calculus?

Yes, many first-year college calculus courses overlap with AP Calculus AB and BC content. Share the course syllabus at the free assessment and we will confirm the match.
