Manitoba math assessments and course pathways in Winnipeg

  • Manitoba's Grade 3 numeracy assessment happens in the fall during normal classwork, covering adding and subtracting, the equal sign and patterns. It is not a test a child can pass or fail, and schools collect results from 19 October to 27 November 2026.
  • In Grade 7, teachers assess number sense and number skills by the end of January, with results collected from 18 January to 26 February 2027.
  • High school math runs from Grade 9 Mathematics (10F) to Grade 10 Essential Mathematics or Introduction to Applied and Pre-Calculus Mathematics (20S), then Applied, Essential or Pre-Calculus Mathematics in Grades 11 and 12. A math credit is required in every grade.
  • Grade 12 provincial tests in Applied, Essential and Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S count for 20% of the final grade. The Semester 1 tests are on 26 to 28 January 2027 and the Semester 2 tests on 15 to 17 June 2027.

A tutor can shore up number sense before the Grade 3 and Grade 7 assessments, help a Grade 10 student choose between the Applied and Pre-Calculus paths, and prepare Grade 12 students for the 20% provincial test.
