Grade 6 and Grade 9 math PATs in Calgary

  • Alberta gives Provincial Achievement Tests to every Grade 6 and Grade 9 student. Grade 6 writes in June, and Grade 9 sittings run in January and June.
  • In 2026-27, Grade 6 Mathematics Part A is on 14 June and Part B on 16 June 2027. Grade 9 Mathematics is on 15 and 17 June 2027, with a January sitting on 22 and 25 January.
  • Grade 6 Part A is a short, 30-minute number test and Part B a 75-minute test across the curriculum's organizing ideas. No calculator is allowed in either part, and students may have up to double the time.
  • From 2026-27 Alberta also requires numeracy screening in Grades 4 and 5, on top of Kindergarten to Grade 3, covering number facts, number patterns and fractions. Schools must share the results with parents.

A tutor can review the number, pattern and problem-solving skills a PAT draws on, use the January or June date as a calm target, and act on a screening result quickly rather than waiting for the test.

Math tutoring in Calgary: questions

Are your math tutors based in Calgary?

No. TaleemSquare tutors teach online, so Calgary families get one-to-one math lessons without travelling to a center. Lessons are scheduled in Mountain Time and follow the Alberta curriculum your child uses at school.

Do you follow the Alberta math curriculum?

Yes. Tutors align lessons with the Alberta Mathematics Curriculum (new K-6 curriculum from 2023) and with your child's own school work. Share homework, worksheets or the topic list and the tutor will match it.

Can you help my child prepare for Provincial Achievement Tests?

Yes. Local tests include: Provincial Achievement Tests in Grades 6 and 9, and Math 30-1 and 30-2 diploma exams in Grade 12. Tutors build the underlying math skills first, then practise questions in the right format as the test approaches.

How much does a math tutor in Calgary cost?

TaleemSquare plans start at C$115 a month for two 45-minute one-to-one lessons a week, about C$14.38 a lesson. Three lessons a week cost C$159 and four cost C$199. There is no contract, and the first assessment is free.

What times are lessons available in Calgary?

Lessons are scheduled in Mountain Time, usually after school on weekdays or at weekends. Your child keeps the same tutor and weekly slots, which you agree after the free assessment.

Do PAT results count toward my child's grade in Calgary?

Alberta says PATs don't replace daily teacher assessments and are meant to complement classroom evaluation, so ask your child's school how it uses the result. Schools share preliminary results with parents by the end of the school year, and an Individual Student Profile is posted to myPass each fall. Our tutors use that profile to decide what to work on next.
