How it works, in short

TaleemSquare Florida FAST math tutoring is live, one-to-one online help for students in grades 3-8 who take the FAST math progress monitoring tests, and for students preparing for the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 end-of-course exam. A tutor works on the B.E.S.T. benchmarks your child finds hardest and practices the computer-adaptive format and item types.

FAST runs three times a year: PM1 and PM2 are for information, and PM3 in May counts for school accountability. Passing the Algebra 1 EOC, or an approved comparative score, is required for a Florida diploma. Plans start at $85 a month.

What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

Growth across PM1, PM2 and PM3

Uses each progress monitoring result to target the next skills, so scores can rise through the year.

Confident with the adaptive format

Has practiced the FAST item types on screen, from equation editor and graphing to fraction models and matching.

Ready for Algebra 1

Builds the equation and function skills the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC checks, with scientific calculator practice.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Number sense and operations

Place value, fractions, decimals and operations, matched to your child's B.E.S.T. benchmarks.

Fractions and rational numbers

Fraction models, equivalent fractions and operations with rational numbers, a common sticking point on FAST.

Algebraic reasoning

Patterns, expressions, equations and inequalities, building toward the algebra in grades 7 and 8.

Geometric reasoning and measurement

Area, volume, angles and the coordinate plane, and how to use the reference sheet where it is provided.

Data analysis and probability

Reading and interpreting data displays, measures of center and simple probability.

Algebra 1 EOC skills

Linear and quadratic functions, systems of equations and data, with scientific calculator practice.

FAST item types

Practice with multiselect, equation editor, graphing, matching, fraction model and multi-part questions.

Signs your child could use help

  • Scored Level 1 or 2 on a FAST math test
  • PM1 or PM2 showed little growth
  • Struggles with fractions or equations in class
  • Gets stuck on graphing or equation-editor questions
  • Is taking Algebra 1 and needs to pass the EOC
  • Wants to move from Level 3 to Level 4 or 5

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

FAST Mathematics and B.E.S.T. EOCs (Florida DOE)

FAST math is computer-adaptive, one session per window: PM1 August 10 to September 25, 2026, PM2 November 30, 2026 to January 22, 2027, and PM3 May 3 to 28, 2027. Achievement Levels run 1 to 5, with Level 3 on grade level.

For families moving from the UK

FAST grades 3-8 cover roughly the span of Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 maths. We check your child's gaps against Florida's B.E.S.T. benchmarks rather than the UK curriculum, then practice the FAST format.

Level: Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 maths

For families moving from Canada

Provincial courses cover similar topics, but FAST follows Florida's B.E.S.T. benchmarks and an adaptive online format. We map what your child learned to the benchmarks and practice the format.

Level: Grades 3-9 math

For families moving from Australia

NAPLAN numeracy tests Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. FAST checks progress three times a year in every grade from 3 to 8, so we fill gaps against the B.E.S.T. benchmarks and practice the format.

Who teaches your child

Every TaleemSquare math tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.

How we screen and match tutors
  • Identity and references checked

Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.

  • Subject test

Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.

  • Spoken-English assessment

Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.

  • Live sample lesson

Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.

  • Open to parents

Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.

How FAST math lessons work

Start from the score report

Share your child's latest FAST report and we begin with the reporting categories that need the most work.

Teach, then practice the format

Each benchmark is taught step by step, then practiced in the same item types your child will see on screen.

Plan around the windows

Lessons build toward each progress monitoring window, with extra review in the weeks before PM3 in May.

Updates for parents

You get a short note after every lesson on what was covered and what to practice next.

Common worries, honest answers

“Do PM1 and PM2 scores matter?”

PM1 and PM2 are for information, and PM3 counts for school accountability. They are still useful, because each one shows exactly what to work on before the next window.

“My child gets anxious about tests. Will tutoring add pressure?”

We keep sessions relaxed and focus on one skill at a time. Seeing progress between windows usually lowers anxiety more than extra drilling does.

“Can you help with the Algebra 1 EOC in middle school?”

Yes. Many Florida students take Algebra 1 in middle school. The tutor follows your child's course and prepares them for the end-of-course exam.

Frequently asked questions

When are the FAST math tests in 2026-2027?

Florida's 2026-2027 schedule lists PM1 from August 10 to September 25, 2026, PM2 from November 30, 2026 to January 22, 2027, and PM3 from May 3 to 28, 2027. Your school picks the exact day within each window.

How long is the FAST math test?

Each test is one session on one day. Grades 3-5 have 80 minutes for PM1 and PM2 and 100 minutes for PM3, and grades 6-8 have 100 minutes for PM1 and PM2 and 120 minutes for PM3.

Can students use a calculator on FAST math?

Not in grades 3-5. Grade 6 students get a four-function calculator, and grades 7-8 and the Algebra 1 and Geometry EOCs use a scientific calculator. We practice with the same kind of calculator your child will have.

Is the Algebra 1 EOC required to graduate in Florida?

Yes. Students need to pass the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC with a score of 400 or higher, or earn an approved comparative score such as SAT 420, PSAT 430 or ACT 16. The Geometry EOC is not required for graduation.

What do FAST achievement levels mean?

Scores are reported as Achievement Levels 1 to 5, where Level 3 means on grade level, along with a scale score and percentile rank. Results are posted within 24 hours, so you can see quickly what to work on next.

How much does FAST math tutoring cost?

Plans start at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, with no contract. You can start with a free assessment, where the tutor checks your child's level and suggests a plan before the next FAST window.
