How it works, in short
TaleemSquare CMAS math tutoring is live, one-to-one online help for Colorado students in grades 3 to 8 preparing for the Colorado Measures of Academic Success math test, and for high schoolers facing the PSAT or SAT. A tutor works on the Colorado math standards your child finds hardest and practices the online format, including calculator-free sections.
The tentative spring 2027 CMAS window is April 5 to 23, 2027, and the PSAT and SAT window is April 12 to 23, 2027. Met Expectations starts at 750 in every grade. Plans start at $85 a month, with no contract.

What changes after a term of lessons

Solid on the tested standards
Fills gaps in the grade-level skills CMAS checks, from fractions and place value to ratios and linear equations.
Strong without a calculator
Keeps arithmetic quick and accurate, since grades 3 to 5 test without one and the older grades have calculator-free sections.
Ready for the PSAT and SAT
Builds the algebra and problem-solving skills behind the PSAT 8/9 in grade 9, the PSAT 10 and the SAT in grade 11.
What we cover
Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.
Number and operations
Place value, multi-digit arithmetic and operations with decimals and rational numbers, matched to your child's grade in the Colorado standards.
Fractions
Fraction equivalence, comparing fractions and operations with fractions, a major focus of the grades 3 to 5 standards.
Ratios and proportional reasoning
Ratios, rates, percents and proportional relationships, central to the grades 6 and 7 tests.
Expressions and equations
Writing and solving equations and inequalities, through linear equations and systems in grade 8.
Geometry and measurement
Area, volume, angles, the coordinate plane and transformations, matched to the grade-level standards.
Statistics and probability
Data displays, measures of center and simple probability, as taught in middle school.
Calculator rules by grade
No calculator in grades 3 to 5, a five-function calculator in grades 6 and 7 and a scientific one in grade 8, plus calculator-free sections.
Signs your child could use help
- Scored Partially Met or Approached Expectations on the last CMAS math test
- Struggles with fractions, ratios or equations in class
- Relies on a calculator for basic arithmetic
- Is in grade 9, 10 or 11 with a PSAT or SAT coming up
- Is moving into an accelerated or honors math class
- Needs more help than the school's test review offers
One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.
Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live
CMAS Mathematics (Colorado Department of Education)
Grades 3 to 8 take CMAS math online in a tentative window of April 5 to 23, 2027. Results use five levels on a 650 to 850 scale, and Met Expectations starts at 750. Grade 9 takes the PSAT 8/9, grade 10 the PSAT 10 and grade 11 the SAT.
For families moving from the UK
CMAS in grades 3 to 8 covers roughly Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 maths. We check your child's gaps against the Colorado standards rather than the UK curriculum, then practice the CMAS format.
Level: Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 maths
For families moving from Canada
Provincial math covers similar topics, but CMAS follows Colorado's own math standards and calculator rules. We map what your child learned to those standards and practice the format.
Level: Grades 3-11 math
For families moving from Australia
NAPLAN numeracy tests Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. CMAS tests every grade from 3 to 8, then the PSAT and SAT take over, so we fill gaps against the Colorado standards and practice the format.

Who teaches your child
Every TaleemSquare math tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.
Identity and references checked
Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.
Subject test
Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.
Spoken-English assessment
Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.
Live sample lesson
Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.
Open to parents
Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.
How CMAS math lessons work
Start with a skills check
The first lesson finds which grade-level standards your child has secure and which need work, using test-style questions.
Teach, then practice the format
Each skill is taught step by step, then practiced in CMAS-style items, with and without a calculator.
Build toward test conditions
Short timed sets grow into full practice sessions as April gets closer.
Updates for parents
You get a short note after every lesson on what was covered and what to practice next.

“Is CMAS given online or on paper?”
Online. Under HB25-1278, Colorado dropped the paper format for state assessments starting in spring 2026, except as an accommodation. We practice on screen so the tools feel familiar by April.
“My child gets anxious about tests. Will this make it worse?”
We keep early practice calm and short, and build confidence by showing progress. Knowing the format well usually makes test day feel familiar instead of scary.
“How do we see the results?”
The state cannot share student results directly. Families use their child's state student ID, the SASID, to see CMAS results in the Pearson family portal, or ask the school for the report.
