How it works, in short
TaleemSquare competition math tutoring prepares children for contests such as Math Kangaroo (grades 1 to 12), the AMC 8 (grade 8 and below) and MATHCOUNTS (grades 6 to 8). In live, one-to-one lessons, a tutor teaches the problem-solving ideas these contests reward, then builds speed and accuracy with timed, contest-style practice.
It suits children who already do well in school math and want a first or better contest result. It is not elite olympiad training at USAMO or IMO level, and we will tell you if your child needs a specialist. Plans start at $85 a month.

What changes after a term of lessons

Knows the contest format
Understands how each contest is timed and scored, so test day holds no surprises.
Has a toolkit of strategies
Uses ideas like working backwards, casework, careful counting and drawing a diagram when a problem looks unfamiliar.
Works faster with fewer slips
Timed practice builds pacing, and reviewing every mistake cuts careless errors.
What we cover
Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.
Number sense and quick arithmetic
Factors, primes, divisibility, remainders and mental shortcuts that save time on contest questions.
Counting and probability
Organized lists, the multiplication principle, simple combinations and basic probability, taught with concrete examples first.
Geometry and spatial reasoning
Angles, area, perimeter, similar shapes and visual puzzles, including the picture-based questions common in Math Kangaroo.
Logic and patterns
Sequences, logic puzzles and pattern spotting, the reasoning behind many younger-grade contest problems.
Algebra for contests
Setting up equations, working with ratios and rates, and spotting shortcuts instead of long calculations.
Timed practice and pacing
Short sets against the clock that grow toward full contest length, plus how to choose which questions to answer first.
Reviewing contest-style problems
Working through contest-style questions, then reviewing each mistake so the same slip does not happen twice.
Signs your child could use help
- Finishes school math work early and wants harder problems
- Is signed up for Math Kangaroo, the AMC 8 or MATHCOUNTS
- Enjoys puzzles and brain teasers
- Runs out of time on timed tests
- Gets stuck when a problem looks unfamiliar
- Did a contest once and wants a better score
One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.
Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live
Math Kangaroo, AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS
Math Kangaroo USA 2027 is on March 18, 2027, a 75-minute multiple-choice test for grades 1 to 12. The AMC 8 runs January 21 to 27, 2027, with 25 questions in 40 minutes. MATHCOUNTS chapter contests run in February 2027.
UK Mathematics Trust challenges
The same problem-solving skills help with UK Mathematics Trust challenges such as the Junior Mathematical Challenge. Lessons focus on reasoning and multiple-choice strategy rather than the school syllabus.
Level: Years 2-11, keen problem solvers
University of Waterloo CEMC contests
Canadian students can take contests from the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing at the University of Waterloo. We build the same core skills: number sense, counting, geometry and logic.
Level: Grades 1-10, contest-ready students
Australian Mathematics Competition
Australian students can use the same preparation for the Australian Mathematics Competition run by the Australian Maths Trust, which also rewards careful reasoning on multiple-choice problems.
Level: Years 1-10, high achievers

Who teaches your child
Every TaleemSquare math tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.
Identity and references checked
Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.
Subject test
Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.
Spoken-English assessment
Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.
Live sample lesson
Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.
Open to parents
Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.
How competition math lessons work
Start where your child is
The first lesson is a short check of contest-style problems at your child's level, so we know which skills to build first.
Strategy before speed
We show why a method works with one worked example, then your child tries similar problems with hints only when needed.
Timed practice that builds
Short timed sets grow toward full contest length as the date gets closer, so pacing improves without stress.
Every mistake reviewed
After each set, your child explains what went wrong and redoes the problem, and you get a short note after every lesson.

EnrollCommon worries, honest answers
“My child is good at school math. Is that enough for contests?”
School math is a good start, but contests ask unfamiliar questions under time pressure. We teach the strategies and pacing that school lessons usually do not cover.
“Will contest practice push my child too hard?”
We match the level to your child and keep lessons positive. The goal is confidence and enjoying hard problems, not cramming.
“Is it too late to prepare for this year's contest?”
Even a few weeks of focused work on format, timing and common question types can help. We plan lessons backwards from your contest date.
