How it works, in short

TaleemSquare Georgia Milestones math tutoring is live, one-to-one online help for Georgia students preparing for the End of Grade math test in grades 3 to 8 or the End of Course test for Algebra: Concepts and Connections. A tutor works on the Georgia math standards your child finds hardest and practices the online format, including constructed-response questions.

Grades 5 and 8 matter most, because students must reach grade level in math for promotion. The Algebra EOC counts for at least 10 percent of the final course grade. Plans start at $85 a month, with no contract.

What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

Solid on the tested standards

Fills gaps in the grade-level Georgia math skills the EOG checks, from fractions and place value to ratios and linear equations.

Ready for written answers

Shows work and explains answers clearly, since some Milestones questions ask students to write their reasoning, not just pick an option.

Confident with the test calculators

Practices with the Desmos calculators the test allows: four-function in grades 6 and 7, scientific and graphing in grade 8 and high school.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Number and operations

Place value, multi-digit arithmetic and operations with decimals, matched to your child's grade in the Georgia standards.

Fractions

Fraction equivalence, comparing fractions and operations with fractions, a major focus of grades 3 to 5.

Ratios and proportional reasoning

Ratios, rates, percents and proportional relationships, central in grades 6 and 7.

Expressions and equations

Writing and solving equations and inequalities, through linear equations and functions in grade 8.

Geometry and measurement

Area, volume, angles, the coordinate plane and transformations, matched to the grade-level standards.

Data and statistics

Reading data displays, measures of center and probability, as taught in middle school.

Algebra end-of-course test

Functions, equations and data analysis from Algebra: Concepts and Connections, for the end-of-course test.

Constructed-response answers

Writing clear steps and short explanations for questions that are scored on the work shown.

Signs your child could use help

  • Scored Beginning or Developing on the last Milestones math test
  • Is in grade 5 or grade 8 this year
  • Struggles with fractions, ratios or equations in class
  • Is taking Algebra: Concepts and Connections this year
  • Loses points by not showing work
  • Needs more help than the school's test review offers

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Department of Education)

End of Grade math tests are given in grades 3 to 8, usually in April or early May, in a window each district chooses. Results use four levels, and Proficient or Distinguished means ready for the next grade or course. Algebra students take an End of Course test.

For families moving from the UK

The EOG in grades 3 to 8 covers roughly Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 maths. We check your child's gaps against the Georgia standards rather than the UK curriculum, then practice the Milestones format.

Level: Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 maths

For families moving from Canada

Provincial math covers similar topics, but Milestones follows Georgia's own math standards and question formats. We map what your child learned to those standards and practice the format.

Level: Grades 3-9 math

For families moving from Australia

NAPLAN numeracy tests Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Milestones tests every grade from 3 to 8 plus Algebra, so we fill gaps against the Georgia standards and practice the format.

Who teaches your child

Every TaleemSquare math tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.

How we screen and match tutors
  • Identity and references checked

Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.

  • Subject test

Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.

  • Spoken-English assessment

Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.

  • Live sample lesson

Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.

  • Open to parents

Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.

How Georgia Milestones math lessons work

Start with a skills check

The first lesson finds which grade-level standards your child has secure and which need work, using test-style questions.

Teach, then practice the format

Each skill is taught step by step, then practiced in Milestones-style items, including constructed-response questions.

Build toward test conditions

Short timed sets grow into full practice sessions as April gets closer.

Updates for parents

You get a short note after every lesson on what was covered and what to practice next.

Common worries, honest answers

“My child is in grade 5 or 8. What happens if the score is low?”

Georgia rules say students in grades 5 and 8 need to reach grade level in math for promotion. A student who does not gets extra instruction and a retest, and a placement committee can still decide to promote. Early practice lowers that risk.

“My child gets anxious about tests. Will this make it worse?”

We keep early practice calm and short, and build confidence by showing progress. Knowing the format well usually makes test day feel familiar instead of scary.

“Does the Algebra EOC affect my child's grade?”

Yes. Since 2023-24, the end-of-course test counts for at least 10 percent of the final course grade, so a solid score protects the grade your child earned all year. Middle schoolers in the course take the EOC instead of the EOG.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Georgia Milestones math test?

The End of Grade tests are usually given in April or early May. The state sets a window and each district picks its own dates inside it, so ask your school for the spring 2027 dates.

What are the Georgia Milestones performance levels?

Results use four levels: Beginning, Developing, Proficient and Distinguished. Proficient and Distinguished mean your child is prepared for the next grade or course. Beginning and Developing mean some skills still need work.

Can students use a calculator on Georgia Milestones math?

The test uses built-in Desmos calculators. Grades 6 and 7 have a four-function calculator, and grade 8 and the high school tests have scientific and graphing calculators. We practice with the same tools so test day feels familiar.

Do Georgia Milestones scores affect promotion?

In grades 5 and 8, yes. State Board rule 160-4-2-.11 says students must reach grade level on the state reading and math tests. Those who do not get extra instruction and a retest, and a placement committee can promote only by unanimous decision.

How much does the Algebra EOC count?

Since the 2023-24 school year, State Board rule 160-4-2-.13 says the end-of-course test counts for at least 10 percent of the final grade in the course. Middle school students taking an EOC course take the EOC instead of the grade-level EOG.

How much does Georgia Milestones math tutoring cost?

Plans start at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, with no contract. You can start with a free assessment, where the tutor checks your child's level against the Georgia standards and suggests a plan.
