What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

Solid on the tested standards

Fills gaps in the grade-level Louisiana math skills LEAP 2025 checks, from fractions and place value to ratios and linear equations.

Ready for written reasoning

Shows work and explains answers clearly, since some LEAP questions ask students to justify their reasoning or model a real-world problem.

Steady pacing

Practices in timed blocks, because every LEAP 2025 test is timed, so focus and checking habits last to the final question.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Number and operations

Place value, multi-digit arithmetic and operations with decimals and rational numbers, matched to your child's grade in the Louisiana standards.

Fractions

Fraction equivalence, comparing fractions and operations with fractions, a major focus of the grades 3 to 5 standards.

Ratios and proportional reasoning

Ratios, rates, percents and proportional relationships, central to the grades 6 and 7 tests.

Expressions and equations

Writing and solving equations and inequalities, through linear equations and systems in grade 8.

Geometry and measurement

Area, volume, angles, the coordinate plane and transformations, matched to the grade-level standards.

Statistics and probability

Data displays, measures of center and simple probability, as taught in middle school.

Algebra I and Geometry

Functions, equations, geometric reasoning and measurement for the high school tests, which count toward the final course grade.

Reasoning and modeling tasks

Constructed-response questions where students explain their thinking or apply math to a real situation, scored on the work shown.

Signs your child could use help

  • Scored Unsatisfactory or Approaching Basic on the last LEAP math test
  • Struggles with fractions, ratios or equations in class
  • Is taking Algebra I or Geometry this year
  • Loses points by not showing work
  • Runs out of time on long tests
  • Needs more help than the school's test review offers

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

LEAP 2025 Mathematics (Louisiana Department of Education)

Grades 3 to 8 and high school courses test online from April 1 to May 12, 2027, and grade 3 can test on paper. Algebra I and Geometry also have fall and summer windows. Results use five levels, and Mastery or Advanced is the goal.

For families moving from the UK

LEAP 2025 in grades 3 to 8 covers roughly Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 maths. We check your child's gaps against the Louisiana standards rather than the UK curriculum, then practice the LEAP format.

Level: Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 maths

For families moving from Canada

Provincial math covers similar topics, but LEAP 2025 follows Louisiana's own math standards and question formats. We map what your child learned to those standards and practice the format.

Level: Grades 3-10 math

For families moving from Australia

NAPLAN numeracy tests Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. LEAP 2025 tests every grade from 3 to 8 plus Algebra I and Geometry, so we fill gaps against the Louisiana standards and practice the format.

Who teaches your child

Every TaleemSquare math tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.

How we screen and match tutors
  • Identity and references checked

Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.

  • Subject test

Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.

  • Spoken-English assessment

Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.

  • Live sample lesson

Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.

  • Open to parents

Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.

How LEAP 2025 math lessons work

Start with a skills check

The first lesson finds which grade-level standards your child has secure and which need work, using test-style questions.

Teach, then practice the format

Each skill is taught step by step, then practiced in LEAP-style items, including constructed-response questions.

Build toward test conditions

Short timed sets grow into full timed sessions as April gets closer.

Updates for parents

You get a short note after every lesson on what was covered and what to practice next.

Common worries, honest answers

“Do LEAP scores affect my high schooler's grade?”

Yes. Under Bulletin 741, the Algebra I or Geometry LEAP score counts for 15 to 30 percent of the final course grade, and the district sets the exact share. A solid score protects the grade your child earned all year.

“My child gets anxious about tests. Will this make it worse?”

We keep early practice calm and short, and build confidence by showing progress. Knowing the format well usually makes test day feel familiar instead of scary.

“My child is strong in math. Is tutoring still useful?”

Yes. Lessons can move ahead into next year's standards and harder problems while keeping the test format familiar, which helps students aiming for Mastery or Advanced.

Frequently asked questions

When is the LEAP 2025 math test in 2027?

The Louisiana Department of Education lists the spring 2027 online window as April 1 to May 12, 2027 for grades 3 to 8 and high school. Grade 3 paper math is April 7 to 9. Schools set their own days inside the window.

Are there fall and summer tests for Algebra I and Geometry?

Yes. High school tests have a fall block from November 30 to December 18, 2026 and a summer retest window from June 21 to 25, 2027, in addition to the spring window.

What do the LEAP 2025 achievement levels mean?

Results use five levels: Unsatisfactory, Approaching Basic, Basic, Mastery and Advanced. Louisiana tracks the share of students at Mastery or Advanced, which it calls Mastery+. Score ranges for each level vary slightly by grade and subject.

What does my child need to graduate in math?

Students must pass either the Algebra I or the Geometry LEAP test, and Approaching Basic or higher counts as passing. Students who enter ninth grade in 2026-27 will instead take one comprehensive math exam at the end of grade 10.

Has the LEAP test gotten shorter?

Yes. In October 2024 Louisiana cut grades 3 to 8 ELA and math testing time by 20 percent. High school testing drops from six tests to four for students who enter ninth grade in 2026-27.

How much does LEAP 2025 math tutoring cost?

Plans start at $85 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, with no contract. You can start with a free assessment, where the tutor checks your child's level against the Louisiana standards and suggests a plan.
