Smarter Balanced and Bellevue's Algebra 1 in grade 8 math sequence
- Bellevue students take the Smarter Balanced math test in grades 3 to 8 and 10. OSPI's spring 2027 online testing window runs March 1 to June 25, 2027. Testing dates vary by building, so families should confirm them with their school.
- Bellevue School District's math sequence expects all students to be ready for Algebra 1 in grade 8, a grade 9 standard, which prepares them for Calculus AB as seniors. Students in advanced learning services take Algebra 1 in grade 7 and Geometry in grade 8.
- For domain-specific math services in grades K to 10, Bellevue looks for a CogAT quantitative score 2 or more standard deviations above the norm, such as 132 SAS, and math achievement 2 years above grade level or above the 98th percentile. Current BSD students test at school from early November 2026 to early March 2027.
A one-to-one online tutor can strengthen grade-level skills before Smarter Balanced testing and help a Bellevue student keep up in IMT1, IMT2, Algebra 1 or Geometry without skipping content.
