STAAR math, Texas grade 6 advanced math and graduation math in El Paso

  • El Paso ISD students in grades 3 to 8 take STAAR math between April 19 and 30, 2027, on TEA's 2026-27 calendar. Algebra I end-of-course windows are November 30 to December 11, 2026, April 19 to 30, 2027, and June 14 to 25, 2027.
  • Texas law automatically enrolls grade 6 students who score in the top 40% on grade 5 STAAR math, or on a local measure, in a middle school advanced math program aimed at Algebra I in grade 8. The rule applies in El Paso, Ysleta and Socorro ISDs, and removing a student needs written parent permission.
  • Under Texas rules, El Paso graduates need Algebra I, Geometry and one more math credit on the Foundation High School Program, plus a fourth math credit for an endorsement. The STEM endorsement and the distinguished level of achievement both require Algebra II.

A one-to-one online tutor can review STAAR math before April 2027, support a child placed in grade 6 advanced math, and prepare for Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II on the path to graduation.

What replaces STAAR for El Paso students after spring 2027?

TEA says House Bill 8 replaces STAAR with the Student Success Tool starting in the 2027-28 school year. The last STAAR is spring 2027 for grades 3 to 8 and December 2027 for end-of-course exams.
