- Worth knowing in California
- Under California's 2023 Mathematics Framework, districts can offer a traditional Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 pathway or an integrated Math I-III pathway.
Irvine Unified School District serves more than 36,000 TK-12 students in Orange County.
- Irvine Unified School District
Irvine Unified's Integrated Math pathway and Enhanced Math placement
- Irvine Unified teaches an Integrated Mathematics pathway from kindergarten to grade 12. High school students take Math I, Math II and Math III instead of separate Algebra and Geometry courses. IUSD says Math I meets the Algebra 1 graduation requirement and Math II meets the UC geometry requirement.
- Acceleration in IUSD starts in grade 7. Sixth graders must meet 3 of 4 criteria for Enhanced Math 7/8: an end-of-course assessment, their current grade, a teacher appraisal and a basic skills test. Sixth graders take these tests in April, and placement letters go home by the end of May.
- IUSD students need 20 math credits to graduate, and those credits must include Math 1 or Math 1AB/CD. The class of 2027 and beyond needs 225 total credits. UC and CSU admission asks for three years of college-prep math with a C or better, and UC strongly recommends a fourth year.
A one-to-one online tutor can review the grade 6 and Math 7 skills behind IUSD's end-of-course and basic skills tests, then keep a student steady in Math I, Math II and Enhanced courses.
