Forward Exam math, MPS math curriculum and credits at or above Algebra I
- Milwaukee students in grades 3 to 8 take Wisconsin's Forward Exam in math online each spring. DPI's 2026-27 family guide sets the window for March 15 to April 23, 2027, and districts choose their own dates inside it. Grades 9 and 10 take PreACT Secure, and grade 11 takes the ACT with writing.
- MPS's January 2025 Math Progress and Plans report lists i-Ready Classroom Mathematics for kindergarten to grade 5 and Illustrative Mathematics for grades 6 to 8, Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II. MPS also gives i-Ready district assessments three times a year in grades K to 8.
- MPS students need 22.0 credits to graduate. For the Class of 2026 and later, that includes 3.0 math credits in courses at or above the level of Algebra I, so courses below Algebra I do not count toward it. Wisconsin's state minimum is also 3 math credits.
A one-to-one online tutor can follow the i-Ready Classroom and Illustrative Mathematics lessons your child uses, prepare grades 3 to 8 for the Forward Exam, and build the Algebra I foundation that MPS math credits require.
