NYC Solves in Bronx schools, the spring state math test and Regents dates

  • In May 2026 the city announced that NYC Solves, its problem-based math initiative, would expand to elementary schools that fall. Bronx Districts 11 and 12 were named for Illustrative Mathematics in grades K to 5, District 9 middle schools were added, and all high school districts stay in.
  • Bronx students in grades 3 to 8 take the New York State math test each spring. NYSED's 2026-27 schedule sets the window as April 5 to May 14, 2027. Each school picks two consecutive school days in that window, and the whole grade tests on the same two days.
  • High school students who sit a math Regents exam, such as Algebra I, do so in NYSED's set periods. For 2026-27 these are January 26 to 29, June 15 to 25 and August 17 to 18, 2027, with no state exams on June 18 for Juneteenth.

A one-to-one online tutor can work through Illustrative Mathematics lessons with a younger child, review skills before the April to May state test, and prepare an older student for the Algebra I Regents or the SHSAT.
