How it works, in short

TaleemSquare gifted math tutoring is live, one-to-one online teaching for children who are ready for more than their class offers. Tutors go deeper into the why behind the math, move ahead into later topics when your child is ready, and add rich problem solving, from early elementary to high school.

Federal law describes gifted and talented students as those who need services schools do not ordinarily provide to fully develop their abilities. Lessons can also prepare children for gifted screening tests like CogAT. Plans start at $85 a month, with no contract.

What changes after a term of lessons

Worked solution of a linear equation on the shared lesson whiteboard
Lessons happen on a shared whiteboard, so your child solves while the tutor watches and guides (example lesson).

Real challenge every lesson

Problems that stretch your child's thinking instead of more of the same worksheets.

Depth before speed

Moving ahead only after the ideas are truly understood, so acceleration does not leave gaps.

Strong problem solvers

Strategies for unfamiliar problems that carry into contests, gifted programs and advanced courses.

What we cover

Lessons follow your child's own school or homeschool curriculum. These are the areas we work on most at this level.

Grade-ahead math

Next year's topics, or further, taught carefully so your child is ready for accelerated placement.

Problem solving

Multi-step and non-routine problems that build flexible thinking and persistence.

Number theory and logic

Factors, primes, patterns and logical reasoning, rarely covered in depth at school.

Early algebra

Variables, equations and functions introduced when your child is ready, often before middle school.

Math contests

Preparation for contests such as MOEMS, with strategies and timed practice.

Gifted screening tests

Familiarity with CogAT-style reasoning question types, without using real test items.

Advanced high school math

Precalculus, calculus and statistics for students moving well ahead.

Signs your child could use help

  • Finishes classwork quickly and is often bored
  • Asks why rules work, not just how
  • Has been identified as gifted or advanced
  • Is preparing for a gifted program or acceleration test
  • Wants harder problems or math contests
  • Teacher says the class cannot keep up with them

One of these on its own is normal. Two or three together usually point to a specific gap, and finding it is what the free assessment is for.

Taught to your curriculum, wherever you live

Common Core and state standards, extended

Lessons build on your state's grade-level standards, then extend them in depth or move into later grades, which helps with district acceleration or gifted program decisions.

National Curriculum in England, with greater depth

For UK families, tutors follow your child's year group and add greater depth and challenge, or move into later key stage content when your child is ready.

Level: More able pupils, Year 1 to Year 13

Provincial curricula with enrichment

For Canadian families, lessons follow your province's math curriculum and add enrichment or acceleration, which can support gifted or enriched program placement.

Level: Gifted and enriched programs, K-12

Australian Curriculum with extension

For Australian families, tutors follow the Australian Curriculum and add extension work, including problem solving and selective school style reasoning.

Level: High potential and gifted students, Foundation to Year 12

  3. 15 min

    Challenge problems

Non-routine problems with hints only when needed.

  4. 8 min

    Extension

Taking the idea further or connecting it to a new topic.

What was learned and a problem to try at home.

Who teaches your child

Every TaleemSquare math tutor passes the same five checks before their first class. Your child keeps the same tutor each week, and if the fit is not right we switch tutor at no cost. Tutors are based in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan and India, and all of them teach in English.

How we screen and match tutors
  • Identity and references checked

Every tutor is identity-verified and reference-checked before teaching a student.

  • Subject test

Tutors pass a subject test before they are matched with a child.

  • Spoken-English assessment

Lessons are taught in English, so every tutor passes a spoken-English assessment.

  • Live sample lesson

Tutors teach a live sample lesson before they are hired, to show they can explain clearly.

  • Open to parents

Classes are one-to-one in a password-protected room. Sit in on any class or ask for a recording.

How gifted lessons work

Find the real level

The free assessment checks how far ahead your child is, which is often further than their grade suggests.

Go deep, then move on

Each idea is explored until your child can explain and extend it, then lessons move ahead.

Challenge with support

Problems are hard enough to stretch your child, with hints that keep frustration productive.

Common worries, honest answers

“Will moving ahead leave gaps?”

Not if it is done carefully. Tutors check understanding before moving on, so acceleration rests on real mastery rather than speed.

“My child is advanced in math but not in everything. Is that okay?”

Yes. Many children are strong in one subject. Lessons focus on math at your child's level, regardless of how they do elsewhere.

“Do you guarantee a gifted placement?”

No one can. Districts set their own criteria, often using ability tests, achievement scores and other evidence. Lessons build skills and familiarity, not shortcuts.

Frequently asked questions

What is gifted math tutoring?

It is teaching that matches an advanced child's pace and depth. Instead of repeating what they already know, a tutor adds harder problems, explores ideas more deeply and moves into later topics when the child is ready.

How are children identified as gifted in math?

It varies by state and district. Many use ability tests such as CogAT, achievement data and teacher input. Check your district's gifted or advanced academics page for its criteria and testing calendar.

Can tutoring help my child get into a gifted program?

Tutoring can build real reasoning skills and make question types familiar, which helps a child show what they can do. It cannot guarantee placement, since districts set their own cut-offs and use several kinds of evidence.

Should my gifted child skip a grade in math?

That decision belongs to your school, which usually uses tests and classroom evidence. A tutor can help your child master next year's material so they are ready if the school agrees to accelerate.

Do you help with math contests?

Yes. Tutors can prepare students for contests such as MOEMS with problem-solving strategies and timed practice in the contest format.

How much does gifted math tutoring cost?

The same as any TaleemSquare plan: $85 a month for two 45-minute one-to-one lessons a week, $119 for three or $149 for four. There is no contract, and the first assessment is free.
