M-STEP math, AAPS's four math credits and summer testing out

  • Ann Arbor students in grades 3 to 7 take the computer-adaptive M-STEP math test. Michigan's 2027 online window runs April 5 to May 14, 2027, and the paper window runs April 5 to 30. Eighth graders take the PSAT 8/9, which counts toward Michigan's grade 8 math accountability.
  • AAPS's 2026-27 course guide sets 22.5 credits for the Class of 2028 and beyond, including 4.0 math credits: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and a grade 12 math elective. Algebra I earned in grade 8 counts toward graduation, while Math Support counts only as an elective.
  • Any AAPS high school student may test out of any Michigan Merit Curriculum course offered at their high school, and testing out of a required course earns graduation credit. Testing out happens in summer, some courses need papers, portfolios or written exams, and the guide says registration deadlines are firm, with no exceptions.

A one-to-one online tutor can prepare students for M-STEP and the PSAT 8/9, support Algebra I in grade 8, and help a student master a course's content before AAPS's summer testing out.
