STAAR math, Katy ISD's junior high Algebra 1 and graduation math
- Katy ISD students in grades 3 to 8 take STAAR math, and Algebra I students take the STAAR Algebra I end-of-course exam. TEA's 2026-27 calendar sets the spring window for both as April 19 to 30, 2027. TEA says spring 2027 is the last STAAR for grades 3 to 8, under House Bill 8.
- Katy ISD offers KAP (Katy Advanced Program) math from grade 6, with Math 6 KAP and Math 7 KAP. Algebra 1 is offered in grades 7 and 8 for one high school credit, and those students take the STAAR Algebra I exam. Geometry KAP is also offered in junior high after Algebra 1.
- Katy ISD's 2026-27 course catalog lists 4 math credits for the Foundation High School Program with Endorsements: Algebra 1, Geometry and 2 more math courses. The STEM endorsement requires Algebra II. Starting with the class of 2029, the Algebra 1 grade will not count in GPA if a student completes 4 more math credits.
A one-to-one online tutor can prepare a student for STAAR math in April 2027, support KAP math and junior high Algebra 1, and keep high school math credits on track for graduation.
