NYS math tests, NYC Solves growth in Queens and the SHSAT
- Queens students in grades 3 to 8 take the New York State math test each spring. NYSED's 2026-27 schedule sets the window as April 5 to May 14, 2027. Each school picks two consecutive school days in that window, and the whole grade tests on the same two days.
- NYC Solves, the city's math curriculum initiative, is growing in Queens. A May 2026 city announcement adds middle schools in Districts 24, 27, 28 and 30, and brings NYC Solves to elementary schools for the first time, including District 25, which uses Amplify Desmos Mathematics.
- Queens 8th graders and first-time 9th graders can take the SHSAT for the eight specialized high schools, including Queens High School for the Sciences at York College. The test is digital, with 180 minutes of standard time. In fall 2025, 8th graders at public schools ending in grade 8 tested at their own school on November 12.
A one-to-one online tutor can review grade-level skills before the April to May 2027 state math test, follow your child's NYC Solves curriculum, and build SHSAT math skills for specialized high school admissions.
