How we wrote this
TaleemSquare offers online one-to-one tutoring, so we compete with Tutero and are one of the alternatives listed here. Prices and policies come from Tutero's own pages and the other sources listed at the end, checked in October 2026.
Tutero is one of the better-known online tutoring brands in Australia. It matches each child with a one-to-one tutor, you pay after each lesson, and there is no contract. For families who want flexibility, that is a strong offer.
It is not the only way to buy one-to-one help, and it is not always the cheapest per week. This guide explains how Tutero works, what it costs as of October 2026, who it suits, and five alternatives with published prices.
How does Tutero work in Australia?
Tutero offers live one-to-one online tutoring from Prep to Year 12 across all Australian states. Subjects include maths, English and the sciences. Each family gets a dedicated account manager, a parent app, a personalised learning platform and a report after every session.
Tutero says it hires tutors from the top 2% of applicants, and that every tutor must hold a valid Working with Children Check. If the match is wrong, a learning advisor finds a new tutor; Tutero describes tutor changes as flexible and easy. Tutero also runs a separate homeschool program with custom pricing.
How much does Tutero cost per hour and per week?
Tutero sells on two tiers, both priced per hour. The page states the A$65 rate applies at every year level, so a Prep child pays the same as a Year 12 student.
| Tier | Published rate | One hour a week | Two hours a week |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private tutor | From A$65 an hour | A$65 a week (about A$282 a month) | A$130 a week (about A$563 a month) |
| Qualified teacher | From A$75 an hour | A$75 a week (about A$325 a month) | A$150 a week (about A$650 a month) |
| Homeschool program | Custom pricing, no rate published | Not published | Not published |
Monthly figures are the weekly price times 52, divided by 12. Tutero does not publish a standard lesson length, package prices, a discount for several lessons, or whether its rates include GST, so we treat the rate as one hour and suggest asking before you start.
Tutero's own cost guide puts typical Australian one-to-one maths tutoring at A$55 to A$85 an hour. That is Tutero's figure rather than an independent survey, but it is consistent with the rates above.
What are Tutero's contract, payment and cancellation terms?
Tutero says there are no lock-in contracts and you can cancel any time. Payments are taken through Stripe after each lesson, so you only pay for lessons that happen. The pricing page's description also mentions no sign-up fee.
The pages we opened do not state a rescheduling or late-cancellation rule, a trial lesson price or a refund policy. If those matter to you, ask Tutero for them in writing.
Who is Tutero best for?
- Families who want any subject at any year. Tutero covers Prep to Year 12 at one rate, which is useful if you have several children at different levels.
- Parents who want a qualified teacher. The A$75 tier is a qualified teacher with subject expertise, for parents who specifically want a teacher rather than a tutor.
- Families who want no commitment. Paying after each lesson means you can stop whenever the lessons stop being useful.
- Senior students. Tutero's cost guide lists senior maths courses (Methods, Specialist and General) at the same A$65 rate as primary maths.
It is a weaker fit for a family that wants twice-weekly lessons on a tight budget, because two hours a week is about A$563 to A$650 a month. It is also less suited to parents who want a fixed monthly price or published lesson length.

1. TaleemSquare: regular lessons at a monthly price
TaleemSquare gives live 45-minute one-to-one lessons in maths, English, reading and writing, following the Australian Curriculum. Plans are A$130 a month for two lessons a week, A$179 for three and A$229 for four, with a free 45-minute assessment first. There is no registration fee or long contract, and you can cancel any time; it takes effect at the end of the billing month. A$130 buys six hours of teaching a month, which is about A$21.67 an hour.
2. Erudite Tuition: a lower hourly rate, same pay-as-you-go idea
Erudite offers private one-to-one lessons online, with a shared whiteboard and recordings, or in your home. Online lessons start at A$59 an hour including GST, and there is no term contract. The first lesson is a trial: if the tutor is not the right fit, you do not pay for it. Erudite asks for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule.
3. Learnmate: choose your own tutor
Learnmate is a marketplace where independent tutors set their own rates, from about A$30 an hour plus GST for a recent graduate to A$100 or more for qualified teachers and top specialists. Learnmate's own pricing page gives a 2025 average of about A$64 an hour. You can message tutors for free, card payment is taken 24 hours after each lesson, and there are no minimum lessons. Learnmate says tutors working with under-18s must hold a Working With Children Check.
4. Cluey Learning: recordings, English and senior subjects
Cluey runs one-hour one-to-one sessions for Years 2 to 12 at A$99 (Standard) or A$86 (Value Max), with two or four sessions prepaid and the same number of sessions as notice. Sessions are recorded, and Cluey adds English and senior sciences. It costs the most per hour here. Our Cluey Learning vs Cuemath comparison goes into the detail.
5. Cuemath: a structured maths program
Cuemath teaches maths only, Kindergarten to Year 10, in two classes a week of 40 to 55 minutes. Prices run from A$17 a class on a 12-month plan to A$35 on a 3-month plan. It offers a free trial class, and its pricing page says unused classes are refunded if you cancel, but the best prices need a longer plan.
How do you choose between Tutero and the alternatives?
- You want the lowest hourly rate with a tutor who has been vetted: Erudite (A$59) or Tutero (A$65).
- You want twice-weekly lessons at a fixed monthly price: TaleemSquare, or Cuemath on a plan.
- You want to compare tutor profiles yourself: Learnmate.
- You need English or Years 11 and 12 sciences: Cluey or Tutero.
- You are not sure how often your child needs lessons: choose a pay-as-you-go option first and plan a review after eight to ten weeks.
Whichever you choose, compare the minutes of one-to-one teaching your child gets each week with the weekly price, not just the hourly rate. Our guide to the best online maths tutoring in Australia compares more providers.
