How we wrote this

TaleemSquare offers online one-to-one tutoring, so we compete with both services named here. Prices and policies come from Cluey's and Cuemath's own pages and the sources listed at the end, checked in October 2026.

Cluey Learning and Cuemath are the two names Australian parents meet most often when they search for online maths help. Both are live and one-to-one, and both say they follow the Australian Curriculum. They are built and priced quite differently, though.

Cluey sells one-hour sessions that parents can book around a busy week. Cuemath sells two shorter maths classes a week on a 3, 6 or 12 month plan. Which is better depends on your child's year level, whether you need English, and how long you are happy to commit.

Per hour is the price divided by session length (40 minutes for Kindergarten to Year 5, 55 minutes from Year 6, as Cuemath's FAQ states). Per week assumes one Cluey session and two Cuemath classes. Per month is the weekly figure times 52, divided by 12.

How do the lessons differ?

A Cluey session runs for an hour: five minutes to set goals and review practice, 45 minutes of work, five minutes to reflect and set practice questions, then written tutor feedback after the session. Sessions are recorded for replay, and the platform needs a Windows or Mac laptop or desktop with a camera because it does not work on phones. Bookings run from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week. Cluey describes its tutors as qualified teachers, top ATAR achievers and subject experts, based across Australia.

Cuemath classes are held on its own platform with the same dedicated tutor each time, and are shorter: 40 minutes for younger children and up to 55 for older ones. Cuemath's own page says its tutors are mainly based in India and trained in the Australian Curriculum, which is worth knowing when you pick class times. Cluey records sessions for replay; the Cuemath pages we opened do not mention recordings.

Which costs more per session and per week?

Cluey costs more per hour, by a wide margin. Cuemath's price per class depends on the year band and how long a plan you take:

Cuemath price per class by plan length (AUD, October 2026)
Year band3 months6 months12 months
Kindergarten to Year 5A$21A$19A$17
Years 6 to 8A$28A$25A$22.50
Years 9 and 10A$35A$31.50A$28

The 3 and 6 month plans add a platform fee of A$39 or A$78 per billing cycle, which is about A$3 a week; on the 12-month plan the fee is A$0. Over a full year, one Cluey session a week costs A$4,472 (Value Max) to A$5,148 (Standard) for 52 hours. Cuemath's 12-month plan costs A$1,768 to A$2,912 for 104 classes, which is roughly 70 to 95 hours.

The two are not the same service, and teaching style matters as much as price. But if the question is purely teaching time per dollar, Cuemath is far ahead.

What are the plans, commitment and cancellation terms?

Cluey has no contract, but you pay for a block of sessions in advance (two on Standard, four on Value Max), and Cluey tops up your account in a weekly billing cycle. To cancel you give notice equal to your block, and those prepaid sessions are used rather than refunded, except where Australian Consumer Law requires it. Sessions can be rescheduled up to four hours before they start, once each. You can pause in the summer holidays; in other school holidays you can skip sessions for a voucher if you cancel a day ahead.

Cuemath sells 26, 52 or 104 classes on plans of 3, 6 or 12 months. Its pricing page says you can cancel at any time for a full refund of unused classes. Its global refund policy (effective April 2026) describes a pro-rata refund of unused paid classes less payment charges, so ask what that means for your plan before you pay for a year upfront.

Cluey's how-it-works page describes rescheduling slightly differently from its fee schedule (48 hours' notice there), so confirm which rule applies to you.

Which covers your child's year level and curriculum?

Cluey offers one-to-one tutoring for Years 2 to 12 in maths and English, and Chemistry, Biology and Physics in Years 11 and 12. Its content is mapped to the Australian Curriculum by state. Cuemath covers Kindergarten to Year 10 in maths only, built around the Australian Curriculum and state syllabuses for NSW, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.

If your child is heading into Year 11 or 12, or needs English as well as maths, Cluey is the only one of the two that continues. If you have a primary or lower-secondary child who needs maths only, both fit.

Which should you choose?

Our verdict

Choose Cuemath if your child is in Kindergarten to Year 10, needs maths only, and you are comfortable with a 6 or 12 month plan: it gives far more teaching time per dollar and a free trial class first. Choose Cluey if you need English or senior sciences, want sessions recorded, prefer tutors based in Australia, or want to avoid a long plan, and can afford about A$373 to A$429 a month for weekly sessions. Neither is better for every child.

When does another option fit better?

  • You want to pay lesson by lesson. Erudite Tuition charges from A$59 an hour online with no term contract, and Tutero charges from A$65 an hour for a private tutor (A$75 for a qualified teacher), paid after each lesson. See our Tutero alternatives guide.
  • You want a free assessment first. Kip McGrath offers one with a qualified teacher, then sessions at a recommended A$78 for 60 minutes.
  • You want regular lessons on a monthly plan. TaleemSquare is A$130 a month for two 45-minute one-to-one lessons a week, about A$30 a week, with a free assessment and no long contract.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cuemath cheaper than Cluey?

Per hour, yes. As of October 2026 Cuemath works out at about A$25 to A$38 an hour on its published per-class prices, against A$86 to A$99 for Cluey. Per week it is A$34 to A$70 for two classes against A$86 to A$99 for one Cluey session, but Cuemath's best prices need a 12-month plan.

Does Cluey or Cuemath have a lock-in contract?

Cluey says it has no long-term contracts, but it takes two or four sessions in advance and asks for the same number as notice. Cuemath sells 3, 6 and 12 month plans billed every 13, 26 or 52 weeks, with a refund of unused classes if you cancel.

Which is better for older students, Cluey or Cuemath?

Cluey, because it continues through Years 11 and 12 and adds English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Cuemath covers Kindergarten to Year 10 in maths only, so a child using it will need a new provider for senior maths.

Can I try Cluey or Cuemath before paying?

Cuemath offers a free trial class. Cluey has no formal entry test and the tutor assesses in the first sessions, and its fee schedule has you pay for the first block of sessions at enrolment, so ask what the first sessions cost.

What is a cheaper alternative to Cluey and Cuemath?

It depends what you need. Erudite starts at A$59 an hour online with no term contract, and TaleemSquare is A$130 a month for two 45-minute lessons a week, about A$30 a week. Neither asks for an annual plan: Erudite charges by the hour and TaleemSquare bills monthly, cancel any time.
