A-level Maths revision timeline, counting back from 26 May 2027

A steady plan beats a last-minute rush. If your child wants a tutor alongside it, our A-level Maths tutoring starts with a free assessment and costs from £69 a month.

  1. Autumn term 2026

Make sure first-year topics are secure. Confirm the board and specification, for example OCR A or OCR B (MEI), and keep a running list of weak topics from class tests.

  2. January to February 2027

Use mock results to target the weakest pure topics first, since pure maths appears in every board's papers, then the statistics and mechanics gaps.

  3. March to April 2027

Complete full past papers in 2 hours under timed conditions and mark them with the official mark schemes. Revisit the board's large data set for statistics questions.

  4. May 2027

If your child also takes Further Maths, plan around those papers, which start from 12 May for Edexcel. Keep sessions short, mixed and regular.

  5. Between papers, 26 May to 16 June

The three Maths papers are a week or two apart. Use the gaps to review the content of the next paper rather than starting new material.

  6. Results day, 12 August 2027

If results differ from a university offer, contact the school or college and the university quickly to understand the options.

A-level Maths dates: common questions

When is A-level results day 2027?

A-level results day for the summer 2027 series is Thursday 12 August 2027, according to AQA's published results days. AQA says schools can give students their results slips from 8.00am that morning. Schools and colleges set their own collection arrangements, so check with your child's sixth form or college nearer the date.

Are A-level Maths exams on the same dates for every board?

Yes. AQA (7357), Pearson Edexcel (9MA0), OCR A (H240) and OCR B MEI (H640) all sit Paper 1 on 26 May, Paper 2 on 9 June and Paper 3 on 16 June 2027, each in the afternoon and each lasting 2 hours. The content of each paper differs by board, for example Edexcel Paper 3 covers statistics and mechanics.

When are the A-level Further Maths exams in 2027?

They depend on the board and the options taken. Edexcel starts on Wednesday 12 May 2027, OCR A and OCR B (MEI) on Tuesday 18 May, and AQA on Thursday 20 May. The last option papers are on Monday 21 June 2027 for Edexcel and Friday 18 June 2027 for OCR, while AQA's last Further Maths paper is on Thursday 10 June 2027.

What happens if my child is ill on an A-level exam day?

Tell the exams officer at the school or college straight away. Under the JCQ special consideration process, the centre applies to the exam board, not the student or parent, and it may ask for evidence. A small adjustment to marks may be made for a paper sat while unwell. If a paper is missed for an acceptable reason, the board may work out a grade from the papers completed, provided enough of the qualification was assessed.

Can my child resit A-level Maths?

Yes, but A-levels are assessed at the end of the course, so a resit means sitting all the papers again, usually in the next summer series. There is no November series for A-level Maths. A student who has left school can enter as a private candidate through an exam centre, which may charge a fee.

What is the A-level contingency day in 2027?

Wednesday 23 June 2027 is the contingency day for AS and A-level exams. If an exam board has to move a paper because of serious disruption, it can reschedule it to this day. AQA and OCR ask schools to remind students to stay available until then, so it is wise not to book a holiday that starts before 24 June.
