NAPLAN 2027 Dates for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9

NAPLAN 2027 runs from Wednesday 10 March to Monday 22 March 2027 for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Writing comes first, on day 1, followed by reading, conventions of language and numeracy in that order. Each school sets its own test days inside the nine-day window.

ACARA has not yet published 2027 results dates. Individual student reports come through your school on a timeline set by each state or territory; for context, NAPLAN 2026 national results were released on 5 August 2026. ACARA says students are not expected to study for NAPLAN, so steady work on year-level maths matters more than test drills.

A calm NAPLAN 2027 numeracy plan

A steady plan beats a last-minute rush. If your child wants a tutor alongside it, our NAPLAN maths tutoring starts with a free assessment and costs from A$130 a month.

  1. Now to December 2026

Find out where your child sits against their year's maths, and note gaps in number facts, place value or fractions.

  2. January and February 2027

Practise core year-level skills a little and often: mental arithmetic, measurement and reading word problems carefully.

  3. Two to three weeks before 10 March

Try the official NAPLAN public demonstration site once or twice so the online format and tools feel familiar. Skip heavy test drills.

  4. Test window, 10 to 22 March 2027

Keep routines normal: sleep, breakfast and arriving on time. If your child is away, ask the school about a catch-up test.

  5. When the report arrives

Go through the proficiency level with your child's teacher and agree on what to work on next in class and at home.

NAPLAN dates: common questions

When is NAPLAN 2027?

NAPLAN 2027 runs over nine school days, from Wednesday 10 March to Monday 22 March 2027, for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Writing is held on day 1, then reading, conventions of language and numeracy in that order. Your child's school chooses the exact days within the window, so ask the school for its timetable.

Can my child opt out of NAPLAN?

ACARA says parents and carers may withdraw their child in certain circumstances, such as religious beliefs or philosophical objections to testing. The principal must have signed parent or carer consent before testing starts. ACARA recommends raising concerns with your child's teacher or principal first, and contacting your state or territory test administration authority if you are still not satisfied.

When do NAPLAN 2027 results come out?

ACARA has not yet published 2027 results dates. Individual student reports are provided to schools by the state or territory test administration authority, and ACARA says the timing may vary between states and territories. Your school will tell you when reports are being sent home. For reference, NAPLAN 2026 national results were released on 5 August 2026.

Should my child study for NAPLAN?

ACARA says students are not expected to study for NAPLAN and does not recommend excessive preparation or coaching services. Some familiarity with the online format can help, which is what the public demonstration site is for. If your child is struggling with maths in class, working on those year-level skills is the more useful step.

Can students use a calculator in the NAPLAN numeracy test?

In Years 7 and 9, ACARA says the numeracy test has a short non-calculator section, and an online calculator is available for the rest of the test. NAPLAN is completed online and the tests are tailored, so questions adjust as your child answers. All Year 3 students still complete the writing test on paper.

What do the NAPLAN proficiency levels mean?

NAPLAN is not a pass or fail test. ACARA reports each student against four proficiency levels for each assessment area and year level: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support. A Developing or Needs additional support result in numeracy is a good prompt to talk with the teacher about what to work on next.

What happens if my child is sick during NAPLAN?

Students who are absent may be able to complete catch-up tests within the window. Year 3 writing catch-ups are allowed until the end of day 4 (Monday 15 March 2027), and Years 5, 7 and 9 writing catch-ups until the end of day 9 (Monday 22 March 2027). A student who cannot sit the tests is counted as absent and will not receive NAPLAN results.
