SAT Test Dates 2026-27: Deadlines and Score Release

The next SAT is Saturday, November 7, 2026: register by October 23, or by October 27 with a late fee. The remaining 2026-27 SAT Weekend dates are December 5, 2026, and March 6, May 1 and June 5, 2027. The August 22, September 12 and October 3, 2026 tests have already taken place.

College Board applies these dates and deadlines to all SAT Weekend students, with deadlines at 11:59 p.m. ET. Its published score release dates fall about two weeks after each test. The PSAT/NMSQT is taken at school, not on these weekend dates: the fall 2026 window is October 1 to 30, and schools handle registration.

SAT prep timeline, counting back from your test date

A steady plan beats a last-minute rush. If your child wants a tutor alongside it, our SAT math tutoring starts with a free assessment and costs from $85 a month.

  1. 12 to 16 weeks before

Take a full-length practice test in the Bluebook app to get a baseline and see which Math and Reading and Writing skills need the most work.

  2. 10 to 12 weeks before

Pick the date and register before the regular deadline, about two weeks before test day, so you avoid the late fee. Set a weekly practice routine.

  3. 8 to 4 weeks before

Work through algebra, advanced math, problem solving and data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry, with one short timed module each week.

  4. 3 weeks before

Take a second full practice test, review every missed question, and get comfortable with the built-in Desmos calculator or an approved handheld one.

  5. Final week

Light review only. Check the admission ticket and test center, update Bluebook, charge the device and plan a normal night's sleep.

  6. After the test

Scores arrive about two weeks later. If a retake makes sense, check the next registration deadline right away, since it may be close.

SAT dates: common questions

When is the next SAT test date?

As of October 12, 2026, the next SAT Weekend test is Saturday, November 7, 2026. The regular registration deadline is October 23, and late registration, with an extra fee, closes October 27. The remaining 2026-27 dates after that are December 5, 2026, and March 6, May 1 and June 5, 2027.

When do SAT scores come out?

College Board publishes a score release date for each test. For 2026-27, students see scores about two weeks after test day: November 20 for the November 7 test, December 18 for December 5, March 19 for March 6, May 14 for May 1, and June 21 for June 5. Colleges receive scores once your child sends them.

How many times can you take the SAT?

College Board says students can take the SAT as many times as they like. It suggests considering taking it twice: most students test for the first time in the spring of junior year and retest in the fall of senior year. Some colleges superscore, meaning they consider a student's best Reading and Writing and Math scores across test dates.

Is the SAT still digital?

Yes. The SAT is a digital test taken in College Board's Bluebook app. It has two sections, Reading and Writing and Math, each split into two modules, and the second module gets harder or easier based on how the student did on the first. Total testing time is 2 hours and 14 minutes, including 70 minutes for Math.

Which SAT date should my junior take?

College Board notes that most students test first in the spring of junior year, so March 6 or May 1, 2027 are common choices, leaving June 5 and senior fall for a retake. Choose a date that allows 8 to 12 weeks of steady prep. If your junior takes AP exams, remember the May 1 SAT falls two days before AP exams begin on May 3.

Does my child register for the PSAT/NMSQT?

No. Students do not register for the PSAT/NMSQT through College Board. Schools and districts decide whether and when to offer it. In fall 2026, schools can give it on a school day between October 1 and 30, or on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Ask your child's school counselor whether they are signed up.

What if we miss the SAT registration deadline?

Late registration stays open for a few more days after the regular deadline, until the late deadline shown in the table, for example October 27 for the November 7 test. A late fee applies, and the late deadline is also the last day to make changes. After that, the next test date is the option.
