English 30-1 and 30-2 diploma exams in Edmonton
- English Language Arts 30-1 and 30-2 each end with a diploma exam worth 30% of the final course mark, written in two parts on separate days on Alberta's digital assessment platform.
- In English 30-1, Part A is written response: a personal response to texts and a critical or analytical response to literary texts. Part B is reading, with 70 machine-scored questions. Each part is half the exam mark.
- In 2026-27 Part A falls on 18 January and 15 June 2027, and Part B on 21 January and 18 June 2027, for both English 30-1 and 30-2. Students must write both parts to receive a diploma exam mark.
- A dictionary and thesaurus are available on the digital platform for Part A, but no reference materials are allowed in Part B.
A tutor can work on close reading of poetry, fiction and non-fiction for Part B, and on planning and drafting the personal and critical responses in Part A, while keeping the 70% school-awarded mark strong.
